Top 5 Appallingly Awesome Concepts in Childrens Shows

By Jamie • May 23rd, 2008 • Category: Articles

We all remember such classics as Art Attack and Fun House, but what about those hidden gems of artistic creativity that are the cartoons of our youth? They ranged from the mundane to damn weird and just for you I have compiled a list of the top five shows to feature the freakiest concepts.

5. Biker Mice from Mars

Ok….I remember this show being on but couldn’t remember the exact concept so I looked it up: It is about three anthropomorphic mice motorcyclists named Throttle, Modo, and Vinnie who escaped a war on their home planet Mars. They eventually end up crash landing on Earth in the city of Chicago. There they meet a charming female mechanic named Charlene “Charley” Davidson and discover that the Plutarkians have come to Earth to exploit its natural resources. They then start to save the day using motorbike related tactics.

Why It Was So Awesome

Just…WOW. What more do you want in a TV show? Mutant Mice, Motorbikes, Mars!

4. Astrofarm

Astro Farm was an animated children’s TV series. It features the adventures of the Foxwoods, a small family who work on an asteroid, which is covered in farmland.

Why It Was So Awesome

Oh come on, a farm on an asteroid!

3. Wizadora

Wizadora is a trainee wizard, and is always trying to solve problems using magic. Yep that’s it, nothing else happened. They got four years out of the concept.

Why It Was So Awesome

She had a computer called “Poot” and a talking telephone called “Phoebe”. As well as them there were an array of other colourful characters each adding something to each an every episode. Did I mention they got four years out of such a simple concept? Most of the episodes took place in her kitchen for crying out loud….

2. Bucky O’Hare

Bucky is the captain of an Intergalactic spacecraft called “The Righteous Indignation” which travels through space combatting the evil of the toads lead by Komplex. With his animal friends and a human named Willy (who can travel to the craft through a portal from his room) each episode they battle against the Toads on a variety of different planets.

Why It Was So Awesome

You just have to listen to the script to see why this made the top 5. There was no talking down in the show:

Android First Class Blinky reporting, sir. Chief Engineer Bruce deeply
involved in contemplation of photon accelerator.

Bear in mind the target audience was 5-11 year olds. They don’t make them like this anymore.

1. Pinky and the Brain

Why It Was So Awesome

This one needs no more comment other than: Pinky and Brain are genetically enhanced laboratory mice who reside in a cage in the Acme Labs research facility. In each episode, Brain devises a new plan for the two mice to take over the world.

Jamie Is Awesome. Enough said really. If there was a prize for the most awesome person in the universe...ok it probably wouldn't go to him, Neal Patrick Harris and Hugh Laurie would beat him hands down but Jamie would come in a close 67th. After a tabloid scandal involving a heavy night of drinking, a church and a teacup he was confined to the darkness of the computer lab where he spent many a day and night perfecting his coding ability. His amazing ability to code like no man before or after him led to the invention of not only this website but several other pointless sites.
